Scottish Ecology, Environment & Conservation Conference 2017

Faith and Faye attended this 2 day conference at the University of Aberdeen where there were a number of very interesting presentations including plenary talks by both Georgina Mace – “How should we value nature in a human-dominated world?” and Des Thompson – “Working for nature conservation: an SNH perspective”. There was also a ‘Question Time’ style panel discussion with a broad title of “Applying ecological science to conservation and environmental policy” which led to some very lively debate.

Faith gave a very interesting presentation on some of her recent work – “Is the standing capacity of assemblages systematically changing?” whilst Faye presented an essence poster entitled “Biodiversity of fish assemblages from the East and West coasts of Scotland”.

The conference was held in the zoology building at the university which features a fantastic museum that is generally open to the public and we were also able to visit the wonderful Cruickshank Botanic Garden and see some of the university buildings in Old Aberdeen.
