Huge congratulations to our taught masters students, Paula Dominguez and Maria Moran, in the Marine Ecosystem Management program on their dissertation submissions!

They presented their work in a School-wide virtual poster session in mid-August. Paula investigated the spatial variation of heat stress and found that heat stress patterns were related to spatial variation in reef structural complexity. Maria’s project analysed the relationship between structural complexity of reefs and coral net growth or shrinkage. She found that net growth was negatively linked with high rugosity structures that branch extensively (high fractal dimension), and these effects were consistent across scales.

We’re incredibly proud of their hard work and finishing strong despite pandemic restrictions!
