I am a PhD student especially interested in the ecology and biodiversity of freshwater fish. In my project, I am investigating how different facets of the biodiversity of this group (i.e the taxonomic, functional & phylogenetic) are changing over space and time.

The overarching question of my project is: how is the diversity of Neotropical freshwater fish changing over time? My main study location is Trinidad, in the Caribbean. Using data from different time windows since the second half of the 20th century, I aim to understand how the freshwater fish assemblage in this island has changed over time. Then, my objective is to investigate the extent to which the patterns observed in Trinidad are mirrored in other fish assemblages in Central and South America. The focus on fish faunas that are part of the Neotropical freshwater realm is motivated by their ecological value as the most diverse on Earth but also by the urgency to gain better understanding of the changes that they are experiencing in the present context of severe human impacts on freshwater habitats.

This project is being carried out in collaboration with the University of the West Indies at St. Augustine. My supervisors are Prof Anne Magurran (University of St Andrews) and Dr Amy Deacon and Prof Indar Ramnarine (University of the West Indies). The project is funded by the Fisheries Society of the British Isles (FSBI).
