Overview
I am a Senior Teaching Fellow in Ecology in the School of Biology and have both a B.Sc. and a Ph.D. from the University of St Andrews. Additionally, I am the Pro Dean (Advising) for the Faculty of Science and the Study Abroad Coordinator for the School of Biology. I sit on the Graduate School Steering Group of the Marine Alliance for Science and Technology Scotland and am a Member of both the British Ecological Society’s Scotland Policy Group and Grants Review College. I am also a Member of the Academic Council of the Tropical Biology Association.
Research
My research is focused in two main areas, the biodiversity, behavior and conservation of freshwater fish species and secondly the patterns and processes underlying the distribution of biodiversity in human-impacted environments. At present, I am interested in the ecology of human-dominated environments and the impacts of urbanization. In particular I am interested in studying these impacts in ground-active arachnids and carabid and staphylinid beetles.
