Overview

I graduated from the University of St Andrews in 2005 with a BSc(Hons) in Internet Computer Science and my interest lies predominantly in data and data analysis. I also have a strong interest in spatio-temporal biodiversity and conservation ecology.

My current role within the group is as research assistant on the Leverhulme project – “Darwin, Wallace, Bates and biodiversity change in the Anthropocene” led by Professor Anne Magurran. I am also involved in the BioTIME database core team where I assist with some of the maintenance of the BioTIME database and related web sites. This database is a huge resource that currently holds over 12 million records and is constantly expanding.

Research

I am keen to explore possible spatial and or temporal trends within our BioTIME data and have a particular interest in fish diversity. I am also interested in investigating possible links with changes in fish community compositions to the changing human communities around Scotland’s coastline and am currently working towards a PhD in this field on a part time basis.

I am interested in exploring spatio-temporal trends in both functional and taxonomic diversity of marine fish assemblages from around the Scottish coast. I also investigate patterns of rarity and identify potential ‘winners and losers’ among the fish species in my study system.
